Chobe National Park
The Chobe National Park is a renowned wildlife conservation area located in northern Botswana. It is one of the largest and most diverse national parks in the country, covering an area of approximately 11,700 square kilometers (4,500 square miles).
The park encompasses various ecosystems, including riverfront floodplains, grasslands, marshes, and woodlands, which support a wide range of wildlife species. Apart from elephants, Chobe National Park is home to buffalo, giraffe, zebra, impala, hippos, crocodiles, and numerous bird species. Predators such as lions, leopards, and hyenas can also be spotted within the park.
One of the main attractions in Chobe National Park is the Chobe River, which attracts large numbers of animals during the dry season (May to October). Boat cruises and safaris along the river offer incredible opportunities for wildlife viewing, as visitors can observe elephants bathing, hippos wallowing, and various bird species, including African fish eagles.
The park offers a range of activities for visitors, including game drives, boat safaris, guided walks, and camping. Safari lodges and campsites are available within the park, offering comfortable accommodation options for tourists.
Chobe National Park is easily accessible and is located near the town of Kasane, which has an international airport and serves as a gateway to the park. The Okavango Delta
The Okavango delta is a unique ecosystem with both a permanent and seasonal home to a wide variety of superb wildlife, a large concentrations of birds and lush vegetation. A recent overview of the Okavango records 122 species of mammals, 71 species of fish, 444 species of birds, 64 species of reptiles and 1300 species of flowering plants. Animals include the African bush elephant, lion, hartebeest, wildebeest, sitatunga, eland, springbok, kudu, duiker, steenbok, gemsbok, sable antelope, impala, roan antelope, zebra, giraffe, African buffalo, ostrich, hippopotamus, black and white rhino, African wild dog, Nile crocodile, cheetah, leopard, baboon, spttend and brown hyena, warthog and the vervet monkey.
Rainfall in the low season is typical although not excessive and temperatures sit around 30°C. Most migratory animals have dispersed from the delta, but wildlife viewing remains pretty impressive.
