Camping along the road less travelled

with African-Explorers

August /November

Warning! This trip is for the ones that seek pure ADVENTURE. We’re going off the grid, exploring Namibia’s finest and less travelled locations on this 14-day 4x4 Yoga & Camping Adventure.

I’ve teamed up with Marcel from African-Explorers who has been doing these tours for 9 years, or in his words, “on a horse back since 1785”. His knowledge and adventurous spirit will make you feel at ease as he shows us a place that not only feels like home, but that is home to him. This German wanderer possesses exceptional off-road 4x4 driving skills and crafts incredible and nutritious meals while sharing stories around the campfire at night - this wilderness is his happy place! I have done one trip with him and immediately knew I wanted to collaborate to create one of my most soulful yoga and adventure holidays yet.

From Rhino tracking in the Waterburg Plateau, known for its stunning scenery, diverse wildlife, and cultural significance - to Namibia’s greatest wildlife sanctuary, Etosha National Park. With 114 species of mammals and 340 species of birds, Etosha has exceptional wildlife including, Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Wildebeest, Giraffe, Hyena, Zebra, Springbok, Kudu, Gemsbok and Eland.

Onwards to Kaokoland, known for being the most remote region in Namibia, offering rugged landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and unique wildlife. Characterized by vast expanses of untouched wilderness, the remoteness lends an air of adventure and exclusivity to the area, attracting travelers seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences. The landscapes of Kaokoland are incredibly diverse, ranging from towering mountains and deep gorges to expansive desert plains and rocky outcrops. Kaokoland is home to several indigenous ethnic groups, including the Himba people, who are known for their distinctive customs, traditional attire, and semi-nomadic way of life - and we will of coarse spend some time with them in their villages, offering an opportunity to immerse oneself in the rich cultural heritage of these communities and learn about their traditional beliefs and practices. Here, we will also camp at Epupa Falls for 2 nights. Surrounded by formidable peaks and arid expanses, the falls offer a sense of tranquility and isolation that is increasingly rare in today's world. Visitors are treated to unspoiled natural beauty and the soothing sounds of rushing water, providing a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As the sun sets over the falls, casting a golden glow upon the landscape, we will unwind with movement and breath, savouring every moment.

Then, off to Damaraland. More mind-blowing landscapes, rugged mountains, and ancient rock formations. Camping in this region allows you to take in the raw beauty of the environment, with opportunities to explore iconic landmarks such as the Brandberg Mountain. Despite its arid climate, Damaraland is also home to a surprising diversity of wildlife, including desert-adapted elephants, black rhinos, giraffes, and various antelope species, making it a prime destination for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. Damaraland's remote location and minimal light pollution make it an ideal destination for stargazing too. Camping under the vast open sky offers unparalleled views of the stars, planets, and galaxies, providing a mesmerizing experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Last but not least, Spitzkoppe, another iconic landmark, often referred to as the "Matterhorn of Namibia". These mountains are renowned for its unique geological features, including towering monoliths, ancient rock arches, and hidden caves, which have captivated adventurers, photographers, and geologists alike. Beyond its stunning natural beauty, Spitzkoppe is also famous for its cultural significance. The region has been inhabited by indigenous peoples for thousands of years, and it is home to a wealth of ancient rock art, some of which dates back thousands of years. These rock paintings, which we will visit, provide valuable insights into the beliefs, rituals, and daily life of the indigenous communities that once thrived in the area.

Oh, and if you haven’t noticed yet, you will be on tour with Marcel & Marcel - Marcel from African-Explorers (he), and Marcel from Namaste Yoga Safari (she/me). We will each be driving a vehicle and guiding you on this once in a life-time adventure. I will of coarse also guide you through silent walking meditations and yoga sessions amongst these beautiful landscapes that we are so proud to call home. The other Marcel will show off his cooking styles and teach you how to drive 4x4 off-roading.

Come on, jump onboard, you deserve this ADVENTURE!
